Using the wrong mortar can accelerate damage while using a properly match mortar will preserve your masonry while also matching the existing mortar. Mortar analysis allows us to formulate a new mortar recipe using the same ingredients and exhibiting the same characteristics as the original.

Determining the appropriate recipe is essential. However, there are variances to consider as well. If you are working on a historic restoration, you may want a historically accurate mortar match whereas if you need to repair a brick chimney on a tract home, historically accuracy is less important and a color-matched mortar similar to the original may be sufficient.
